How to Choose A Tax Preparer

Ten IRS Tips on Choosing A Tax Preparer

1. Check the preparer's qualifications
2. Check the preparer's history
3. Ask about fees---avoid preparers who charge a percentage of the tax refund
4. Ask if they file electronically--IRS requires any tax prepare who prepare more than
    10 returns to file electronically
5. Make sure the tax preparer is accessible after the April due date
6. Provide all tax records and receipts to the tax preparer
7. Never sign a blank tax return
8. Review the completed return before signing
9. Make sure the preparer signs the return and list their PTIN (required by IRS)
10. Report fraud or misconduct to the IRS
